AYHA Board of Directors monthly meeting
Held at Amery Ice Arena, 7:30 pm
Members Present:
Mark Karnick, Julie Measner, Jeff Bohn, Kathy Casselberry, Laurie Harris and Erik Hellie
Absent members: Kevin Smith, John Mork, Mike Hanson, Jeff Becker, Dan Severson and Brian Melberg
Prior Board Meeting Minutes from June 27, 2011 could not be approved because there was not a quorum present.
Treasurer’s Report:
No quorum present to approve.
Budget needs to be approved.
Girls Coop:
Everyone needs to review the current Girls Coop agreement. Do we want to continue to coop with New Richmond and Somerset? New Richmond does not want to pay for ice time in Amery. Mark and Kevin were thinking perhaps they can come to Amery to practice based upon the percentage of Amery girls on the team. There will be no Amery girls on the coop teams next year. There are currently 6 registered girls Squirt and younger. Kathy mentioned, being there no longer is checking at the PeeWee level why can’t the girls stay on the boys team through the PeeWee level. Two parents with Squirt level girls were inquiring when they would have to have their daughter play on the coop team and were happy to hear that they didn’t have to this year.
Lighting donation:
The Blue Line Club donated $500 towards the new lights.
Lights & Summer Work:
Lights are being delivered July 27th. A work night to put them up will be set and email sent out to members. Also other work can be done if they cannot help with the lights. Work nights will get set up in Aug and Sept and mass emails will go out to the members reminding them to get their hours in.
Registration Nights:
Registration was on Sept 13 & 16 last year. The members present thought this year’s registration nights should be after fall festival on Sept 19 & 20.
Tournaments:
Kathy suggested Squirt A/B Dec 10/11 or Jan 14/15, PeeWee A/B Dec 17/18, Bantam Jan 28/29 and Mite jamboree Feb 11/12. Need approval to get into the Let’s Play Hockey
Sign Advertising:
Invoices will be mailed out the first week of August. A list of potential advertisers will be put together and Jeff B. and Kathy will contact them. Kathy will also send out to past advertisers to see if they would like to advertise again.
Coaches/Rink Manager:
Mass email will be sent to members to have them apply for coaching and/or rink manager.
Capital Campaign:
Erik and Jeff B. discussed possibilities for a large capital campaign $100,000 to $250,000. Jeff B is putting together a brochure about Amery Youth Hockey and list needs that the money will go towards. For example lighting $5,000 … up to ice resurfacer “Zamboni” $100,000. Jeff B. thought we could mail to people outside the community such as NHL hockey players or teams or even Bill Gates.
Mailing to potential new members:
Julie asked Kathy to look research the cost of the USA Hockey mailing to potential members (K-3rd grade) regarding the Free Intro to Hockey in October on Wed.s from 6-7:30
Outdoor Rink:
Jeff B. will have the outdoor rink checked to see if it is level. If not, he will rent a roto-till for his tractor and work up the ground and level it. It was suggested perhaps we should consider adding a clay base to the outdoor rink.
