AYHA Board of Directors monthly meeting

Held at Amery Ice Arena, 7:30 pm

Members Present:

Kevin Smith, Mark Karnick, Kathy Casselberry, Laurie Harris Mike Hanson, Jeff Becker, Dan Severson, Brian Melberg and Erik Hellie

Absent members:  Julie Measner, Jeff Bohn and John Mork,

Prior Board Meeting Minutes

Kevin asked to amend the June 27, 2011 minutes Treasurer’s Report, from (the motion to move $5,000 from the checking account to the building savings account..) to (the $5,000 will remain in the checking account to pay for the new lights).  Laurie made a motion to approve the minutes with the amendment and Brian seconded the motion.  Minutes were approved with amendment.

Brian made a motion to approve the July 26, 2011 minutes, Laurie seconded the motion.  Minutes were approved.

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer was not present to present the treasurer’s report.

2011-2012 Budget was reviewed (see attached).  Change the 2011-12 budget for tournament raffle under fundraising income to $500 instead of $5,000.  Laurie made a motion to keep registration fees same as 2010/11 season, Mike seconded the motion.  Motion and budget were approved by the board.

There was some discussion regarding the reduction of concession income and not sure why.  Perhaps we need to enforce some stricter rules and deposit the money after open skate and the weekends on a more regular basis.  One reason it may be lower is because of the lack of tournaments last year, and no regional tournament.

Registration Nights:

2011/12 registration nights will be after fall festival on Sept 19 & 20.

2011/12 family invoices will be mailed out to members this month.  Include USA Hockey online registration instructions and to turn in rental equipment.

Kevin will talk to Jamie Larson about doing Frisbees for the parade again this year and including registration dates on the Frisbee.  Last year the cost for 9” Frisbees was .55 cents ea. Minimum order of 200 ($110).  Kevin will also ask Jamie if a sign could be put on the trailer showing registration dates, learn to skate dates and open skate info.

Girls Coop:

Because the Coop no longer wants to reimburse for ice use and the 3 girls that will be affected by renewing the 2 year Coop agreement, would prefer to play on the Amery boys teams, a motion was made by Kathy to disband from the Girls Coop (Western WI Stars), Erik seconded the motion.  Board approved not participating in the coop agreement for the 2011-2013 seasons. 

Any girls who would like to play on the Girls Coop team do not have to have a release from Amery Youth Hockey Association, because AYHA does not offer a girls team.  They would have to register with either New Richmond or Somerset.  All girls can play in Amery if they choose to do so, but they cannot be registered on both the Amery team and the Girls Coop team per WAHA rules. (See WAHA guidebook page 53 – rules & regulations; article 1 registration & eligibility; (E.  player may not be registered with more than one association..) and (G.3. a female player wishing to play on a female-only team may play for such a team in the nearest association offering one, provided her home association does not offer one at the appropriate level and the nearest association is not a WAHA approved co-op team.  Such a player would not be required to secure a written release, other than a financial one.)

Lights Installation:

Installation dates have not been set yet.

Squirt A/B Jan 14/15

Bantam Jan 28/29

Mite jamboree Feb 11/12. 

First ad will be in the Let’s Play Hockey September issue

Amery will be hosting WIAA section #1 finals on Feb 24 or 25.

Coaches/Rink Manager:

Mass email was sent to members to have them apply for coaching and/or rink manager.  Kevin has received one email regarding the rink manager, he has not yet talked to Bryan Cook.

Arena floor leaks:

Waiting to get on Rink Tec’s schedule.  They assure Mark they will have done in time for when our ice goes on Oct.1.  First open skate is scheduled for October 7.  There also may be a Fall Clinic this year.
