. . . Frank's fabulous photos
Biographical sketch: Frank Barthen's enthusiasm for photography
began in 1944, using a borrowed camera. It wasn't until 1974 that
he purchased a SLR camera and he was able to expand his interest in this
exciting art medium. An extension of his desire to see the world
in another perspective evolved into the realm of underwater photography.
This was in 1972 -- about ten years after earning his diver certification.
Frank enjoys a wide scope of photo subjects and styles, including:
-
Underwater
-
Documentary
-
Landscape
-
Nature
Awards in underwater photo media
include:
-
Professional Association of Diver's, Inc., regional contest winner, featuring
"Peek-a-Boo," printed in a 1983 issue of "Skin Diver" and "Undersea Journal."
-
Ohio Council of Skin and Scuba Divers, received recognition for 10 first-place
entries.
Frank Barthen has traveled extensively over the past 25 years, an inspiration
that has brought fascination and unlimited opportunities to enhance his
special art form. Often his traveling companions included his wife
and some of their eight children. Other travels were "scuba exclusive,"
and Frank joined up with "divers only" to capture submerged paradises around
the world.
The photo artist recently retired from a family owned donkey business.
When he isn't traveling, he enjoys talking to audiences about his travels
and diving explorations. He is truly a shining gem of the sea.
