The Application Process

What we Support

The Foundation supports programs which enrich life by fulfilling civic, humanitarian, cultural, recreational, aesthetic, environmental and educational needs in the Prescott area.

In setting priorities for making grants, we consider the needs of the greater Prescott Area, the programs of other funding agencies, and our resources.

Because we expect that requests for funds will always exceed our resources, we will give higher priority to projects that significantly contribute to the benefit of the residents of our community and where a moderate amount of money can effect a significant result.

Who May Apply

The Foundation welcomes grant requests from organized groups—formal and informal—within the greater Prescott Area such as:

  • Independent nonprofit organizations
  • Charitable organizations classified as 501(c)(3) under the Internal Revenue Code
  • Local units of state or national organizations
  • Groups of individuals or clubs organized to sponsor a charitable project.

What to Consider Before Applying for a Grant

Grants will usually be awarded for the accomplishment of a definite purpose within a specified time period—normally not more than one year. In general, the Foundation does not make grants for:

  • Endowments
  • Religious groups for religious purposes
  • Debt retirement
  • Re-granting by another organization
  • Individuals
  • Political organizations
  • Tickets for benefits
  • Fundraising drives or activities, social events, or goodwill advertising
  • Reimbursable projects or activities
  • Organizations that exist primarily to influence legislation
  • Funds that replace budgeted on going tax supported activities

How to Apply for a Grant

The grant committee coordinators or Foundation president, are available to answer questions from grant seekers as proposals are being developed. Such consultation will be informal and carry no assurance of suitability for funding.

Written Application

The written application should have introduction and narrative sections. The introduction should contain the following:

  • Name, address and description of organization requesting the grant
  • Contact person name, address, phone, and email address
  • Description of request
  • Amount of grant requested
  • Date submitted
  • Date project is to begin
  • Date of completion

The narrative should

• Clearly identify the purpose of the project and how it meets a need of the Prescott area
• State source of any other funds that are being requested or have been granted by other organizations
• Identify how many individuals will benefit from the project
• State the resources you have to implement the project
• Say how the Foundation will receive publicity if the project is granted

Where to Send Requests

If possible email grant request to prescottfound@aol.com. Otherwise mail to Prescott Foundation, PO Box 392, Prescott, WI 54021 or contact the grant committee coordinators listed below.
