MONTHLY MEETINGS:

We continue to hold our general monthly meetings on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the St. Lawrence Township Hall.  We would love to see more residents at these meetings as it is always a pleasure to see the town hall filled with the residents of St. Lawrence Township.

AMBULANCE SERVICES:

St. Lawrence Township is now covered by Ridgeview Medical Center for it’s ambulance services.  This has taken place because of the change in Belle Plaine’s ambulance services and has been working nicely for the past year.  If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact one of the board members.

NEW ASSESSOR IN TOWN:

At the May 14th, 2009 township meeting, the board approved Scott County to take over the assessing of our township for tax purposes.  Because of this change, Scott County will be visiting all homes in St. Lawrence Township some time this year to gather accurate and up-to-date data for the assessment purposes.  Please do not hesitate to call one of your board members if you have any questions with this process

SOCIAL HOST ORDINANCE:

The social host ordinance is now in effect in our township.  For specific information on this ordinance, please visit the Scott County website at www.co.scott.mn.us

TOWN HALL IMPROVEMENTS:

The board has been making many improvements to the town hall including new siding, new roof, refurbished wood floors and some new furniture.  All of this has been done within the last year and the town hall looks very nice.  We have also asked the Emmerich’s who own the property that the town hall sits on to maintain the landscaping around the town hall.  This will add nicely to the new look.  We have also purchased a storage shed to store some things that do not necessarily need to be in the town hall at all times.

 BUILDING PERMITS:

Please remember that any time you do improvements to you home, you may be required to obtain a building permit.  If you are not sure whether or not you need a permit, please call Mona Bischof at 952-492-3284 and she will assist you with the process. There may be a fine assessed for anyone starting a project without first receiving a building permit.

 PUBLIC NOTICES:

Public notices are published in the Jordan Independent and the Belle Plaine Herald.

 ST. LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP WEB SITE:

This is just a reminder that the township does have a web site that you can find information with regards to township meetings, etc.   Visit us at www.stlawrencetownship.org.   It has come up recently that we should hire a company to build a web site for our township that is new and improved.  It would also be easier to find if you do not have the web site information right in front of you and apparently would be much easier for the clerk to update the information in a more timely manner.  I would really like opinions from the township residents on this and request that you e-mail me at mona1129@frontiernet.net with how you feel about the township spending money on a new web site and if you feel it will benefit you and the residents.  If you do not internet services available, please feel free to leave me a message at 952-492-3284.  Thank you.

 MN DOT SPEED LIMIT STUDY:

We have received information back from MN DOT on their speed study for 185th Street, 190th Street and Delaware Avenue.  We are able to reduce the speed limits on these roads in certain areas and are in the process of putting new signs up to reflect this.  Please look for these in the near future.

 UPDATE ON ROADS AND DITCHES:

We are continuing to seek ways of finishing the paving project on Township Road #57 since our grant monies have ended.  We have applied for other grants but have been turned down.  We are also looking at finishing it off with our levied monies but have not made any decisions.  We will continue to talk about this road and other upcoming projects at our monthly meetings.

 ELECTIONS:

Township elections have now moved to November of the even years so our next official township election will not be until November 2010.  Annual meetings will still be the second Tuesday of March of each year.

  MAIL BOX REQUIREMENTS:

We have been having some  issues with regards to mailboxes in our township.  Our road authority supports the US Postal Service and Statement requirements and has adopted this policy as part of our township requirements. The most important of these requirements is that the mail box must be a “breakaway” mail box, must be 41-45 in. from the road surface to the bottom of the mail box and is set back 6-8 in. from the road edge to the mail box door.  The township also wants to remind you that it is not responsible for any damage done to a mail box because of snow plowing.  If you have any questions with regards to these requirements, you may obtain a copy through the Post Office, Scott County or your Township Board Clerk.
